Technology
How we think about the problemHow should the heart’s electrical information be captured? Here is the challenge we are working on, and how we think about it.
The challenge we address
Atrial fibrillation is a common arrhythmia, estimated to affect about 60 million people worldwide.
Catheter ablation is a mainstay treatment. However, with current approaches centered on pulmonary vein isolation (PVI), recurrence can remain a challenge for some patients. One reason discussed in clinical practice and in the research literature is that the electrical substrate involved in recurrence may not be fully captured by existing measurement technologies.
Our approach
OpMap is working on this problem from the software side.
We believe the heart’s electrical signals may hold more information than conventional measurement reveals. If that information can be drawn out through analysis, it may offer a new cue that supports decision-making in ablation. We are pursuing that possibility through research and development.
Academic background
Our work builds on published research. We presented related research findings at the Heart Rhythm Society annual meeting (HRS 2024).
Where we are now
The software OpMap is developing remains at the research and development stage. It has not received approval or certification as a medical device in Japan or in any other jurisdiction, and is not available as a product for use in clinical settings.
This page describes the direction of our research and development. It does not introduce a specific product, nor does it represent the effect or performance of any product.
